Woman•Horse

by Nancy Ma

Proudly presented by Chinese Women’s Vision and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office
– Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Woman•Horse is a series of ceramic work created by Nancy Ma to welcome The Year of the Horse.

This series is also be exhibited as one of the associated events for the 2014 Sydney Chinese New Year Festival – to celebrate the Year of the Horse.

Woman•Horse embodies the deep roots of Chinese culture carried by modern Chinese women.

In these works, Nancy creates a new artistic expression of ‘Mother’ – using the concept of fusing the form of Chinese ancient script ‘Woman’ and ‘Horse’ together. This concept forms the basis of her artwork series which honours Chinese Women and Mothers.

The exhibition explores the instinctive love and protective nature of a Mother for her Child.

By using the occasion to commemorate The Year of the Horse, Nancy shows that by aligning Chinese women and horses, she demonstrates the usually humble women’s need to articulate innate strength even though, paradoxically, it is through the traditionally masculine symbol of a horse.

The profound meaning Nancy incorporates in her exquisite Woman•Horse artwork provokes and entices every viewer wanting more to explore even further.
